Transvaginal Ultrasound

Dr. Shweta Shah, one of the best gynecologist in Mumbai, is an expert in handling transvaginal ultrasounds. She focuses on providing detailed and accurate diagnoses via transvaginal ultrasound.

A transvaginal ultrasound examines the uterus, ovaries, fallopian tubes, cervix, and pelvic area of a woman. The term "transvaginal" refers to a passage that runs across or through the vaginal canal. During the test, the ultrasound probe will be inserted into the vaginal canal.

What is the Procedure for a Transvaginal Ultrasound?

  • Your knees will be bent while you lie down on your back on a table. Stirrups may be used to keep your feet in place.
  • A probe will be inserted into the vaginal canal by the ultrasound technician or doctor. It might be a little uncomfortable, but it won't hurt. A condom and a gel are used to cover the probe.
  • The probe sends out sound waves and records the waves' reflections on bodily structures. The ultrasound equipment creates an image of the body component.
  • On the ultrasound machine, the image is displayed. To see the pelvic organs, the doctor will gently slide the probe around the area.
  • To observe the uterus more clearly, a specific transvaginal ultrasound approach called saline infusion sonography (SIS) might be required in some circumstances.
